Fourth place went to Patrick Wallace of Millington, with his 18lb 10oz fish and fifth place went to Eric Gartland of Westminster with an 18lb 8oz catfish. The tournament also had a Ju- nior angler division (15 and under). The first place of this division was awarded the A.D. Burt Memorial Cup in memory of A.D. Burt, a local avid fish- erman who lost his life in a tragic car accident earlier this year. Plans are to pass this cup down each year in his memo- ry and to encourage youth to get outdoors. This year’s first place was awarded to Cayden Cheslosky of Millington for his 15lb 4oz fish. This statement was read when the cup trophy was presented, “Thank you for remembering me. May there be no sadness of farewell. I am fishing on my ‘Magic.’ Running outbound on a gentle swell.” Second place in the junior an- gler division went to Isabelle Gerstmyer, of Chestertown with her 13lb 4oz catfish. Third place junior went to Charlie Schmidt of Chestertown with a 12lb 10oz fish. Fourth and fifth places were tied and the tie was broken by the fish that was weighed in first. Fourth place was Hunter Hitchens of Mid- dletown, Delaware with a 12lb 4oz fish. Fifth place junior went to Kyle Dyott of Easton with a 12lb 4oz fish. The weather was beautiful on the day of the tournament — Sunday, September 6th — and it couldn’t have been better for a fishing tournament. The weigh-inswere held at a private property on the river, just south of the Chester River Bridge. On-site spectators were not al- lowed this year, due to COVID concerns, but hopes are to be able to do that in the future. However, the entire weigh-in event was live-streamed on the chapter’s Facebook page and was broadcast on FM 87.9, al- lowing many people to still safely enjoy the tournament excitement. The overall adult winner was Ian Miller out of Church Hill, Maryland with his 28lb 12oz Blue Catfish. Ian’s boat also walked away with the tourna- ment calcutta (heaviest 3-fish stringer) of $9,000. Second place adult was Mike Kempel, out of Millington, with a 23lb Blue Catfish. This chapter was founded in 1965 and has been active in the area ever since. Until 2020, the chapter’s large yearly fundraising event has been a dinner and auction, held at Washington College. Last year over 600 people attended the annual banquet. Knowing the global pandemic would prevent the banquet from be- ing held this year, the chapter decided in early June to plan the Chester River Catfish Tour- nament. A safe, outdoor and family friendly event. The turnout for the tournament was great! 138 boats were reg- istered with 450 anglers includ- ing nearly 100 Junior anglers (aged 15 and under). Each boat captain and junior angler re- ceived a YETI bucket filledwith goodies from Ducks Unlimited and local sponsors. $15,000 was raised in local sponsorship money for this event (list at- tached).
